Back on the road again for another food safari adventure. I decided to take George and two of my friends for some Mexican food to a place called Baja Cantina (see map below).
Situated on the main road in Glebe in Sydney this place looks very small on the outside but is surprisingly big on the inside.
Looking at the menu I knew exactly what I wanted, I was craving tacos!!! The waiter gave us ample time to look at the menu before returning to take our order.
Entrees:
1. Quesadilla with Chicken filling - $9.00
2. Beef Taquitos (3) - $12.00
3. Corn Chips and Salsa - $6.00
AV:
The quesadilla comes as a Crispy flour tortilla filled with jack cheese and
jalapenos. I ordered it with chicken filling. It was delicious and very
tasty. The tortilla was fresh and the chicken was soft. Make sure you eat this
with sour cream, it works really well together. Wish I ordered it as a
main. I will be definitely doing that for next time. This dish is highly
recommended!!!
GK:
The dish is very well presented. The
Taquitos consists of shredded Beef and Chorizo wrapped in a fried crispy corn
shell served with chipotle Salsa. Unfortunately
for my liking the Appetiser didn’t live up to the presentation. The Corn shell was quite hard, almost
stale. The filling was nice, however a
little too spicy for me.
The corn chip salsa was quite nice. The
salsa consisted of a cheesy warm vegetable salsa. The consistency of the dip was just right,
not too runny, and quite tasty.
Mains:
1. Tacos with Chorizo filling - $25.00
2. Fajitas - $23.90
3. California Burrito - $22.90
AV:
You get three tacos on your plate. They were ok, however I don't think
chorizo was the best option for a traditional taco, perhaps beef or chicken
would have been the better option. They were however one of the better
tacos I have had for a while. You have options of choosing a soft or crispy
shell. I definitely recommend the crispy shell. Its not really to
me a traditional taco if its not crispy.
GK:
I ordered the Chicken Fajitas with marinated chicken with sautéed capsicum, onions,
served with salsa, cheese cream, onions, lettuce, guacamole rice, beans and
flour tortillas. A very hearty filling meal!
I struggled to finish it. The
salad was fresh and the salsa was not too spicy, just right. The marinated chicken filling was soft,
tasty, and infused with Mexican herbs and spices. I found the rice and beans to be a little dry
and stale, I think they had been pre – cooked the day before, definitely tasted
like it. The flour tortillas, we a
little too flowery, actually they tasted like they came out of a box of ready
made tortillas. I would have preferred freshly
prepared ones, especially from a specialised Mexican restaurant. This meal was
ok, nothing to brag about.
NB: Our friend both had the California Burritos. They liked them as mains, and would order them again.
So how do I rate the food out of 6
