Social Club - Bar and Restaurant

On 27 Nov 2011 myself and two friends decided to have lunch at Bondi Beach.  It was there that my friend suggested a place called Bondi Social (see map below).
What can I say, the name of the place did not sound very appealing and I did not know what to expect from the menu because we needed to take the elevator up to the first floor of the building.

It was there that we asked for a table outside on the balcony.  Unfortunately none were available, however the girl did say that one would be available shortly and we decided to put our names down and have a drink at the bar.  Minutes passed and our table was eventually available for us.  What can I say, the view from the balcony was amazing, overlooking the entire beach.  It was breathtaking.

Looking at the menu, they had a variety of main meals and a selection of tapas.  The three of us decided to share two tapas and order a main meal each.

Entrees -

1. Grilled Halloumi with olives, orange and rocket salad ($15)
2. Spanish meatballs ($14)

AV:
Both entrees were deliciously, I thoroughly enjoyed the Halloumi salad, very fresh, cheese was soft and not chewy.  The combination of orange bits and olives with the cheese worked very well.  However, the second entree was nice but I thought a couple of the meatballs were slightly over cooked.

GK:

I thought the Haloumi was a little tough, most likely it became cold within the salad.  I’m use to having it piping hot, off the BBQ with some lemon and Greek Oregano.  However I still liked the salad, it had a unique sweet flavour mixed in with the balsamic vinegar and haloumi that made it worth while.

In contrast to AV I liked the meatballs, I thought they were well done (or as AV put it, overcooked) but that gave them a more earthly taste that combined will with the rich Tarragon red sauce.  Especially when you dipped the sourdough brad that came with them on the side.

Mains -

Lean Beef Burger with tomato, cheese, lettuce and beetroot. ($17)

AV:
Wow this burger was amazing, so yummy and it did not take me long to finish it.  I could have gone for another one.  Meat was perfectly cooked and the salad was fresh and crisp.

GK:
Yep i agree the burger was awesome!, loved the meat, and the caramelized onions, and the fresh handmade bun.  Liked the sauces that accompanied it as well.  However, i thought the chips didn't compare to the burger, they were obviously frozen chips, and had been cooked in oil that needed changing, and at an obviously low oil temperature, that gave them that under cooked task. Having said all that i would go back here again.

Ok so how would we rate the food out of 6?

AV:

1. Grilled Halloumi Salad - 4 stars
2. Meatballs - 3 stars
3. Lean Beef burger - 4.5 stars
Average Overall - 3.8 stars

GK:

1. Grilled Haloumi Salad - 2.5 stars
2. Meatballs - 3 stars
3. Lean Beef burger - 4 stars
Average Overall - 3.2 stars

Would we go again - YES
