Miso

Back on the Food Safari mission again to find everything you need to know about eating out in Sydney, this time we headed to World Square in the Sydney CBD to a place called MISO.

If you are a fan of Japanese food or are willing to try something new, this place is worth checking out.

Entrees

Agadashi Tofu : $4.80

I am not a huge fan of Tofu, it all depends on the way it is prepared.  I was pleasantly surprised.  There were 4 large square pieces of tofu served in a sweet sauce.  Delicious flavours in the sauce, Tofu was firm but soft when biting into it, it was not soggy as I have experienced in the past at other places.  There was crisp layer on top of the tofu, not sure what it was, tasted a bit like seaweed but it had a honey like colour texture on top, nice flavours.

Edamame Beans : $4.80

This is stock standard when you go to a Japanese Restaurant, a must have starter before your main meal arrives.  I thought there was a bit too much salt for me on the beans, however it is personal preference.

Main Meal

AV:
Pork Cutlet and Prawns Combination (served with rice, miso soup and three small salads) : $16.50

One of the most popular dishes on their menu, definitely recommend it for your first outing at Miso,  Great Value for money, $19 for everything you see in the picture below.  The mistake I find at a lot of places that they serve crumbed or battered seafood or meat is that it can come to you on the plate oily and I have experienced this.  Not the case at Miso, the pork cutlet and prawns were delicious, tasted very fresh and nicely cooked, not oily whatsoever.

The salads were tasty and fresh.  Miso soup had great flavours.

GK:
Misu Katsu (tonkatsu pork loin (180g) with sweet miso sauce): $16.50

This was a tasty balanced meal meals.  There were so many different flavors to taste in one meal, quite an amazing way to eat.  I love the way that the Japanese pack so much variety in one meal.  The chicken Katsu was soft and the bread crumbs were cooked just right, not burnt at all.  The meal came with some salad, mixed cabbage in a mayonnaise and potato mash mix, and some shredded seaweed mixed with stingy beans in a salty / pickled sauce.   And of course the traditional Misu soup to keep you warn at night.

The atmosphere was good as well, the seats were comfy and I liked the exposed vertical structures on the wall, gave it quite a modern feeling to the place.

How would we rate the food:

I definitely recommend this place for friends and couples.  This place does get very busy, be prepared to get their early, waiting time is usually 5-10 minutes when they are full.  They do serve you hot tea (complementary) while you are waiting for a table.

Agadashi Tofu - 4.5 stars out of 6

Edamame Beans - N/A

Pork Cutlet and Prawns Combination - 5 stars out of 6

Misu Katsu - 4.5 stars out of 6

Average overall:  4.6 stars out of 6

This place is great value for money, food tastes great, I would definitely go back.
