Billy Kwong

Back again for another foods safari adventure, yum yum..........

My girlfriend suggested that we try a new place situated in Surry Hills called Billy Kwong.

The venue inside is very cramped, not much room to walk around tables as they have tried to fill as many small tables as possible.  I am not to sure why they have taken this approach, tables are quite small and we just managed to fit our meals on the table with our drinks.

The food:

Crispy Pork Belly in plum sauce

A must recommendation if you are a pork lover, it was absolutely delicious, the plum sauce dressing with a hint of honey and squeeze a bit of lemon/lime on top, fabulous.  The pork was nicely cooked, a bit crispy smothered in plum sauce which was sweet and a dash sour.  This dish was a bit pricey for the wallet $46, however I realised that when you go out and eat, you should enjoy your food because its not like you are going to run back to that restaurant the following week, so I said..... why not...Unfortunately Billy Kwong changes some of their dishes on a regular basis and this dish is not there at the moment so I am glad I tried it.

Crispy prawn wontons with sweet chilli sauce

This was delicious, the prawns were so meaty.....nice appetizer.

Wok-Fried Rice Noodle Rolls with Braised Biodynamic Beef & Black Beans

This has to be my favourite starter on the entree menu.  Lots of nice flavours, the beef was juicy....a must have starter.

How do I rate the food

Crispy Pork Belly in Plum Sauce 5 stars out of 6

Crispy prawn wontons with sweet chilli sauce 4.5 stars out of 6

Wok-Fried Rice Noodle Rolls with Braised Biodynamic Beef & Black Beans 5.5 stars out of 6

Recommended for couples, I believe this venue is far too tiny for groups of friends to go along and enjoy,  there is no room.  However, if you are prepared to wait and get cosy with everyone else around you,  the food...... its worth it!
